TVR S 2.9 Thermostat 82 or 88 degrees?

A question. Does your 2.9 run an 82 or 88 degree stat? I am confused as to which really is correct?

My bible ( 1st Edition ) states 82 degrees for all S engines.
88 may be the fan switch setting?

82 degrees? I tried to get one of these and I couldn't, 88 was the only one available....

All 2.9 engines run an 88 degrees thermostat
part number is QTH316K

Picked up a QH QTH117K 89 degrees (what's a degree between friends) the other day at a car boot, new in box, opened box to check and there were three inside, brand new, complete with a selection of gaskets and o rings....and all for a pound

The way TVR cocked up the cooling system you can put what you like in it will make no difference, still take ages to warm up and when its hot it'll over heat. Move the bypass connection from the swirl pot to the bottom hose and never be cold or worry about over heating again.

OK - the new thermostat (QH) is 88 and fitted. The car runs just fine now I have removed my new swirl pot and got running pressure back up.

After a good run to fully warm the whole system the car runs at 90 - 95, at idle on the drive the fan cuts in for 50-70 seconds every 5 - 8 minutes.

Happy, though the bypass-jiggle hole with ball bearning thingy in the thermostat is now only 1.5mm in diameter compared to the original stat 3mm approx. This reduces flow through the stat before opening and is for me a retrograde step.

If anyone has an orignal stat with larger ball bearning bypass hole - I would prefer one!

Hi All,

My mechanic told me that the car gets hot because the thermostat is broken and needs replacement. Cooling system not working because of this issue.



I need to replace my Thermostat as well but I dont know where to buy it or which one I have to use.

Can someone help me to locate the part?

Unless your mechanic is very young he should recognise that as a Ford Granada engine?

Ford Main Dealer may have one or spanish equivalent of www.halfords.com or a good car spares shop (motor factors)

On this issue I need to replace the thermostat on my S3 - I've heard it said I need to remove the waterpump to get at it. Is this right? I thought it was on the front of the block at the top of the engine? I know this might make me sound an idiot so please be gentle!

water pump bolts onto timing cover and the thermostat housing onto the inlet manifold, don't think either obstructs the other?
