Help - Goodridge Hoses Not Fitting

Help please, why won’t my new Goodridge brake hoses simply just screw into the front calipers – am I missing something?

At a guess and only a guess... Imperial and metric threads??

The front calipers have a metric (M10) thread. On my car, at least, ALL of the hoses and brake connectors were metric M10, so it was just a matter of picking the correct size and doing them up.

I didn't know this then, but I have since read on here that some owners find that the rear brake hoses aren't metric, they are imperial, and although the thread looks almost identical, it doesn't actually fit.

So if your kit has imperial rear hoses, and you're trying to put one of those into a front caliper, it won't fit.

Apologies if this reads as a bit patronising, it's not meant to be at all, it's just an easy mistake to make (if you're me) and it's the only reason I can think of.

Having said that, they can be a right pain to line up and get the thread to catch - I took one of my calipers off to free it, and I could hardly get it back on, and I KNEW it had fitted before!

Look at the nut - some metric have a little 'nick' in the corner of the nut - imperial are plain. This was the case for the last set of goodridge hoses I had in my hand. Imperial go near the diff both sides, metric everywhere else.

Screw the hose into the caliper first before connecting the other end otherwise you twist the hose.

Thanks, I’ve been through the whole metric/imperial saga with the rear hoses and had to have alternative fittings made up on the new pipes.

Will try again this evening [I notice that the original hose fitting and a clear section before the thread started which would probably make it easier to start].

Do you still have old hoses, can you lay the threads against each other to see if they match perfectly?

Update – Managed to fit the new flexible hoses, thanks for the help [TVRGIT] in the end I had to remove the callipers and clean off all the muck from around the threads to get the hoses to catch.
