Speedo sensor S3, broken yellow wire........

hi anyone.
had my S3 since november, speedo stopped working a couple of months ago & not until recently found the bible. it turns out the yellow wire has broken off the sensor, but to get to the sensor is a ball ache, obviously. would this be the reason the car ran badly for a while & is there an easy way to replace other than take the exaust off??

Taking the exhaust off is a pretty easy job, just had the whole system + down pipes off my car today, and back on. Took 2.5 hours or so.

ok if you have time & space, i use the car daily & live on a terraced road (no garage or drive!!)
