V8S Rear Wheel Bearings
Discussion
Apologises Stu if you already know this but if you look at the outer race you’ll see a number. If you quote this number to the motor factors you should get the right one. Appreciate you may want the replacement to hand so you can do the job in one go and someone may be along later with the answer. Good luck.
Can anyone give me advice as to how to remove the inner section of the bearing?
According the Haynes manual etc, they say to 'drift' the bearings through! Well I've tried that and can't get them to budge. If anybody has experience of it then I'd appreciate the benefit of their knowledge otherwise it's a trip to the garage and I hate being defeated
Also what is the chance of the bearing being the same as the Chim/Griff ones?

When the outer race is fitted it goes up to a shoulder, from memory there are two gaps in this shoulder to give access to the back of the race so it can be drifted out. Also what is the chance of the bearing being the same as the Chim/Griff ones?
I changed the bearings on my S some time ago and later when I bought some bits from a Griffiths to do my disc conversion I thought I'd get new bearings again rather than removing and refitting used ones (pretty cheap on Ebay and see below). So bought the bearings only to find they were too small, chim/Griff are not same as drum brake S.
On the outer race is written JL68111 and FLT-8
on the bearing itself is written JL68145 and FLT-8

oops, just re-read your post, do you mean how to remove the bit with the rollers?
Use an angle grinder to cut through the cage, that'll get that and the rollers out of the way. Now the good bit, partially grind through the inner bit in one place as far as you dare without catching the shaft, support it on an anvil ideally but more likely a vice open an inch or so then whack the area you've ground with the biggest hammer and chisel you have.... it should split and fall off.
Getting confused here, your profile says S3c but first post says V8 ? Bearing numbers above are drum brake cars

Hi Mike
Thanks for your post it's extremely informative.
Got the other half out in the end thanks to your post (upgraded to a larger 'persuader' and that did it eventually!)
I can understand your confusion, and should probably have explained what I was trying to do in a little more detail. I do have a S3c and have perfectly adequate drum brakes at the rear. However I plan to upgrade the front to the simple 260mm conversion and whilst looking for those calipers found a standard set of V8 rear calipers, discs and hubs for a fair price and thought I'd try the conversion (just as a little project, not because I feel the drum set up is poor but just to get a bit more feel during 'spirited' driving).
I already have some disc brake flanges and need to just replace these bearings in the V8 hubs and swap them across instead of the existing ones.
I realize I'll also need to change the handbrake cable to a shortened Sierra one but that shouldn't pose to many problems. Can you think of anything else that I'll need to do?
Oh I have a rebuilt 7.5" LSD that I'll put in at the same time so plenty for me to do when the winter arrives.
Now I have the other half the bearing out I can see the markings: BT1B328053-VQ? 060 so should be able to order some from that.
Thanks again,
Stu
