Obsessing About Steering – Update!
Discussion
Following your posts I've
• Checked tyre pressure – slightly too high, now 22lb/in
• Stripped down steering linkages and aligned/phased UJs – quite a bit out
• Lots of grease on the UJs when reassembling
• Tracking checked and adjusted to toe in 0.5degrees
Big improvement on steering when entering and exiting corners, nice and precise and doesn’t move around on rutted/ uneven roads now as it use to – but still feels a little heavy especially on rounderabouts at lower speeds though I’m beginning to think this might normal for the car and will wait until I get the chance to meet fellow S owners who can then drive the car and pass judgement.
Thanks for the very sound advice.

Thanks for the update Nigel. If it ever stops raining, I need to sort out the Phasing on my new UJ's. Fitted them last weekend, but wasn't aware of the rules regarding UJ's!!!
The problem with my steering is excessive play (I think) at higher speeds (above 50mph), but as I can't remember what the other S's were like (that I test drove at start of year) it is difficult to know for sure.
Once the bulkhead bearing, UJ's and tyre pressures have been ticked off my list, I guess I will be getting the steering rack re-furbed as a last resort. After that, I will just put up with however it ends up!!
