My clutch on the 1990 s2 has started slipping like a good un, I've had 1 quote so far and it was £720. Is this the going rate? He said the engine and gear box would have to be taken out. Could anyone tell me if this is about the right price.
Cheers
Brett

Sounds a bit steap !

Engine or gearbox has to come out. Getting the gearbox out is a bit tricky, especially if you don't know a couple of tips posted on here in the past.

Engine out could involve bonnet off depending on what lifting arrangements they have.

Neither is a "five minute" job but no more than a days work for a competant mechanic, 8 hours @ £50 p/h + parts, guess it adds up ?

Cynical maybe but could be a case of "we don't really want the job, price it high so we scare him off or if we do still get it at least we'll make a few bob" !

Yeah, i dont think the guy has ever done one before as he was asking a lot of questions about it. Probably just covering his ass in case it takes longer than expected.
