Ignition switch or a sensor ?
Discussion
My S1 2.8 standard V6 started first time after a good service, then I turned it off went for a cupper came back and then it would not start unless I kept the starter motor runing on the ignition switch, also the rev counter was not working.
Next morning it started ok, but now it has happened again and I need to know what is causing the problem as I do not want to get caught out in the middle of a day's drive. One day on still will not start with out holding the key.
Anybody any suggestions,
Thanks
Paul

Yellow connector?
Have you got an immobiliser/alarm? That might be playing up. If you do have one, try isolating it and see if the problem goes away.
Also check all the wiring you can for loose broken connections. There are lots of historical threads on here of similar problems, many of which were caused by dodgy wiring.
You weren’t planning on doing much else this weekend were you?

Thanks,
I have check and cleaned all the connetions by the side of the washer bottle, checked all the fuses and as far as i know there is no alarm.
Also when the engine is running by holding the key in starter mode the rev counter is still not working so it is not a fuse.

Yellow connector? Got to rule that out before you spend a lot of time looking everywhere else. Where in Beds/Herts are you? I'm in WD4.
Fancy comming to this tomorrow?

Don't have the 2.8 engine myself but a look at the wiring diagram suggests it could be the cold start resistor, its connections or the ignition module that provides power to it?
When key is in start position these are all by-passed, as is the trigger wire to the rev counter.

The wiring diagram referred to above is labelled 2.9 so there could be differencesWhen key is in start position these are all by-passed, as is the trigger wire to the rev counter.

Might be labelled 2.9 but my 2.9 sure ain't got a DV8 ignition module, green hot start module, cold start injector, thermotime switch, cold start resistor, extra air valve, warm up regulator etc. etc.
