Have a problem with the "S" at start-up. Sometimes i have to start engine 2-3 times before the car runs and idle as it should. The idle is rather low around 500. I have never had this problem before and sometimes there are no problems.

any suggestions!

Try removing and cleaning the bypass air valve in the plenum, or switch it for a known good one. It sometimes solves issues with idle.

Just trying to help. No need for the rolly eyes.

Thing on the left screwed into the side of the plenum.

When you put it back, make sure you get a good seal. There should be a gasket or some people use a bead of silicon/ instant gasket.

A common workaround if the idle valve is sticking on the v8 is to unplug the connector when it is idling normally (i.e. with engine running). You may have to feather the throttle a bit when cold to prevent stalling but other than that's its not a bad solution. Just tuck the plug out the way somewhere.

If it wont tick over from cold, it wont be because the end needs cleaning. It is obviously not retracting fully when the ignition is switched off. If this is the case i would imagine it has had it.

I have just purchased one of the cheap ones of ebay £16 delivered, thought i`d give one a go, and it is working perfect. If you do order one just make sure to get the right one as there seems to be 2 variants on the same part number. In the electrical connector end of the stepper there are 2 plastic notches, dictating which way round the plug fits on. These plastic notches can differ in their position.
