Electric Window Motors
Discussion
Greetings all
Have been having some problems with the driver side window motor on my S2 only working sporadically. It's definitely the motor, I've checked the connections from the switch to the door and tried running the motor direct from a spare battery I had. Sometimes it works, some times it doesn't.
I have some spare window motors and mechanisms from my S3C spares car but they're completely different to the units in the S2. So the questions are:
Has anyone on here swapped the window winder mechanism in their S2 with the later system from an S3? If so how difficult was it?
Is there anyone on here who would like to swap a set of S3 electric window motors and mechanisms for S2 motors and mechanisms?
Does anyone know what the S2 window winders are off? I've looked on the alternative parts list and it suggests Citroen, but I don't know which one.
I did try the search function, but it's not working properly ar the moment.
Any pointers would be appreciated.....

I know you say you have checked with a direct power supply but, I found the wiring trapped in the door shut was getting shorted out, or disconnecting the earth wire. A new length through this area sorted the problem.
There is a click from the motor when you operate the switch with either the door open or closed. Likewise the the same thing happens when connecting directly to a battery. Sometimes the motor operates, sometimes it doesn't. Will check though, wouldn't surprise me if it's a multitude of issues.....Thanks for responses, managed to source a second hand motor. Some dismantling to complete in the not too distant future!
I trust its the driver's side motor from the Renault that fits the driver's side door on the TVR? (assuming both are right hand drive). Hopefully TVR didn't decide to use passenger side on driver's side and vice versa!?!

An update on this having spent an eternity faffing about it with and achieving little progress!
It appears that it's the mechanism that's jamming and stopping the motor from operating. Despite cleaning and relubricating it continues to work sporadically.
A word of warning, the Renault 5 motors do fit the winder mechanism but they do not line up with the mounting holes on the door because the fitting on the motor is out by 90 degrees. Also the TVR seemed to have swapped passenger for driver side and vice versa. (Don't ask how I know this).
So if there is anyone out there with an S2 driver side electric window motor and mechanism they'd like shot of I'd be vey interested to hear from them. Likewise as before if anyone wants to swap a set of S2 motors and mechanisms for the set off my S3c spares car then drop me a line.
Failing that, it's a phonecall to David Gerald tomorrow (perhaps that's what I should have done in the first place!) - or the bloke breaking the S2 on ebay to see if he's got one....
On the upside I've managed to install my shiney new (well refurbished) FX4 taxi mirrors. All I have to do now is work out how to wire them up......

I spoke to David Gerald on Friday, they have some electric motor assemblies in stock (I'm hoping they'll agree to fit a pair to my S1 to overcome the issues I currently have with my manual windows!)On the upside I've managed to install my shiney new (well refurbished) FX4 taxi mirrors. The guy on ebay with the S2 only had a driver's side assembly which I bought off him yesterday but it was no good to you anyway as it's a manual...
Thanks for the steer on the spares car on Ebay. Am waiting for the parts dept to call me back from David Gerald.
The other half also drives my S2 so mirrors need adjusting more frequently. I could just tell her she's not allowed to drive it any more?

Why add possible electric problems? Once they are adjusted for you isnt that all you need, how often do you need to adjust?
Rather a snug fit in garage, need to be able to adjust mirror to see rear quarter doesn't catch door post on it's way in / out. Alternatively I could clear all of the rubbish out of my garage! The other half also drives my S2 so mirrors need adjusting more frequently.
