Track day noise limits

Hi

Just wondering if anyone else has been on a track day in a V8S and whether noise was an issue. I've borrowed a sound meter from work and it's showing about the limit of 105dB at the track's test conditions of 3/4 max rpm about 4000rpm,art 0.5m and 45 degs. The sound meter I got isn't expensive so just a little concerned its not too accurate and I'll turn up and be just over according to the track equipment and be in trouble. Anyone got any of their own experiences in my model of car.?

Track day is oulton park by the way...

Most track days are normally 96db "quiet" days now, which means you will have no chance, some circuits do run 105db days but these tend to be more expensive, try looking at Bookatrack's website for upcoming days and noise limits in place, good luck

My V8 measured 102 when I tested it, went through the noise test at brands (105) and cadwell (105) with no problems. If you're seeing numbers quite close to the limits then you probably want to do something about it though noisier tracks are a lot more tolerant of cars on the limit than places like goodwood where the council get upset if you take a TVR anywhere near the track.

Or go to an event where you can do some "spirited" parade laps like some of us did at Spa & Le Mans this year where there isn't a noise (or speed!) limit A bit closer to home the Sillystone Classic offered similar laps but I think the pace might have been a more controlled.

My V8S was 106db at a track day a few years ago, muffler bought it down to 103db and squeezed through (100db limit)

Cheers, I'm on 105dB with 105dB track noise limit so a single dB up on the day from there its all over, with track money gone. I dont possess mufflers and they seem to be about £100 for the pair roughly so wondered if there was something else I could improvise with that anyone else used successfully. Baked bean cans strapped on with some cotton wool stuff inside!

V6 Answer, my S2 was measured recently at Snetterton. By carefully managing revs to 'lower resonance points' around the target 4250rpm I managed a 104.6, rest of time it was 105+

I was allowed on but day limits are 105 with evenings 102 under normal track days

ok, well i guess I will be able to 'manage' the revs. Could draw the red line on the rpm dial at 4000rpm!

Well thats just put me right off - was think of going track daying, but after watching that bunch of nobbers! I can't even begin to figure out what move that TVR S was trying to make. Poor old Citroen thingy was simply minding his own business and amazingly comes off worse!

I did a track day at Oulton Park on 28th August and my car (Westfield) was bang on 105dB before I went.

My thinking was exactly the same as yours...I'd bought a cheap sound meter the week before, found I was at 105dB, had a little panic and bought one of these:

When it come to the noise test I tried without it first...107dB on the Oulton Park meter. The guy was very cool about it, "Go and stick whatever you've got on the exhaust and we'll see what happens". I popped the Supertrapp on with all the discs installed (more discs = less attenuation), went back, 105.5dB...he let it pass

He was also a bit kind on the revs. I'd worked it out 5100rpm for the test, but when I told him my engine (VX C20XE) he suggested 4500rpm.

I went back later and asked if he had any suggestions on how I'd be able to pass 96dB at another track day venue. He said the guys at the Oulton park track shop had developed these, and are known to shave 10dB off:

I thought my car was loud, but not intrusive....apparently spectators told me I was the loudest thing on the track
