ticking noise?

my tvr s2 started making a ticking noise during drive down m,way,think its the manifold on the passenger side,local garage say they dont know if its the manifold itsef or the gasket?till they take it apart, its also a bugger to restart now once the engine gets warmed up?can you still get hold of these manifolds as i can see its got a small patch already welded on it.any suggestions would be welcome.

There may be cheaper options out there, if it is just a crack rather than metal rotted away, a welded repair might sort it?

Or it could be just a gasket, the faces of the manifolds distort and may need filing flat otherwise new gaskets fill fail within no time.

I had the same trepidation back in Feb, when my cast iron manifold ( 2.8 ) started blowing.

I soaked the studs repeatedly with Plus Gas, a couple of times a day for 3 days before I attempted to loosen the nuts using best quality "surface drive" socket & ring spanners. I gave each rusted nut a smart clout using an old socket that just fitted over the stud, to shock the corroded threads. It helps to work the nut back & forth, applying more Plus Gas if you feel increased resistance to undoing.
The secret is don't be too impatient, if it feels like it's going to shear, soak it some more, give it another crack, leave it for a bit & move on to the next stud.

It took me 2 days of perseverance, but they all unsrewed eventually.
Better than having to remove the heads to fix a sheared-off stud.

thanks ,would a blown exhaust gasket cause the hot start problem that the car has developed ?

I would have thought that's more likely to be a fuelling/ induction related problem. As long as you're not flooding it.

ETA I'm assuming the starter is turning the engine over ok?
