Cheap "S" for sale on ebay
Discussion
Just on today, a damaged "S" advertised as an S2 but is in fact an S3C. If anyone is interested check it is not a BREAK ONLY car. Seller has no papers so get vin number from chassis and HPi.
It looks like a good winter project and I have a bonnet which may even be the same colour if anyone here buys it.

Looks like the chassis would repair with too much trouble.
As it has taken the impact centrally, it has probably just bent the front cross bar and will have pulled the front legs inward.
It would need a closer look though just to ensure that it has not kinked further back.
Just needs all the other bits sourcing and a rebuild.
Could be a good winter project. If I was further forward with the S1 I would consider selling it and start again on that one.
I think the wife may have something to say about that though!!

Messy, but looks like a nice winter project..

May have a bonnet free to anyone that can come and get it.. Tatty, needs work after a light front end collision, but fixable. Given 1st refusal to someone else, but its certainly salvageable.
Would this car have to have a Q plate or could it have a private TVR type plate? Never sure of the rules..
Edited to add, with the front end out like that, it may make a good donor for a 24V cossie engined S. Saves you stripping it down. Needs a full inspection before anyone buys it for any purpose I thnk..

As I said in original post check the Hpi status of the car before bidding. Since no documentation is available do this from VIN number. If it is break only then you can never legally put it back on the road no matter what you do . If not then it should keep its original number.
"Bargain" who knows, project yes.
I have no interest in this sale whatsoever, just pointing out that it may or may not be a good project for someone but do your homework before bidding.

Looking at the chassis I would say that it would be quite a big job to repair and certainly would need some form of jig to ensure it was square. The remaining bodywork looks fine though so perhaps a new chassis would be the way to go. As was asked earlier, does anyone know how much a new chassis costs? I remember reading somewhere that a new griff one costs about 3 grand so i guess it would be similar. Also I gather steering racks are hard to source?
Finally it is not clear if it has been registered as a write off or not. If yes then which catagory. It may not be possible to put it back on the road (without new chassis) with the same registration. Buyer beware I think is the moto!

I was interested in this one as my son was looking for a project and it is in Nottingham which isn't far from Lincoln to go and view. Gave the guy a ring and he says it is a category B write off and he doesn't know the registration. I thought that cat B should be crushed and never put back on the road but have read a previous article on Pistonheads which suggests that in the case of a "classic" rebuild it is still possible to put these back on the road so I am a little confused ? We have discounted it as there is a lot of work including the fact that the swirl tank is missing so the cooling sytem has been drained prob for some time on top of everything else. At the end of the day you still have a car with a category B hanging over it.
