Taking BERG to France - advice please!
Discussion
Hi All -
Ive just booked a ferry for next week where myself, the missus and BERG will be travelling over to Northern france for ten days of hotels/gites/camping.
Other than euro breakdown cover and possibly a spare throttle cable, does anyone have any advice as to what may be of use- This will be the first time I will have taken an overseas trip with the car
- Any issues getting on and off ferries? (its not very low)
- Insurance issues?
- decent roads/places to see in Normandy?
- any other advice?
cheers all,
Tim

Hi Tim,
This has been covered quite a bit in the past. Do a search on "france" across the forum and you'll find quite a few topics that cover it.
But to try and round up, you must by law
:
- Carry a fire extinguisher, warning triangle, first aid kit & spare bulbs.
- Remove any radar detection devices
. Even owning one will get you a severe spanking from a bemuscled gendarme .
- Put those headlamp converter thingys on.
Other suggestions would also include :
- Dump the spare tyre (it's shag all use - again look in the archives for why) and take a couple of can's of tyreweld instead. This is completely legal. You can now get far more in the boot !
- Always carry 120 Euros cash for on the spot traffic fines (stops the dibble impounding the car).
- Carry photocopies of your driving licence, insurance, MOT & V5 as well as the originals. Likewise your passport and E111 EU health cover doc (available from the Post Office).
Petrol can be quite tricky to find on sundays (except on Motorways) and also between 12 and 3pm (lunch is important right ?)
Go Zoooooom alot. French roads are way better than ours
But enough
- it's friday - time to go home,
Have a great holiday - I'm jealous !
Cheers,
WG
