Grab yourself a bargain, I am sure Paul can give you an honest lowdown on the car too.

Fraid not Paul, have no intention of selling the V8S but keep a look out and as its the end of the summer you could get yourself a bargain like I did! I bought mine in November!

If I hadn't already got my S2 I'd have been the first person on your doorstep to view your S3 Paul!

Lovely car and in an unusual colour too.

Now everyone’s had a good laugh at my expense, here's why I sold-on what seemed when I bought it to be a great car. Paul Farmeryellow did tell me that the car had little or no history; the HPI check was clear; and Paul kindly permitted me a long test drive and explained the reason he was selling. I am not casting aspersions here at all. I bought the car there and then; later, after a bit of finetoothcombing I realised the crazing on the bonnet was more than just superficial. I started investigating the history (with 10 owners someone in the trade must’ve handled the car ?), David Gerald provided the lowdown: it had been written-off after an accident in Ireland a couple of years back which comprehensively restyled the front end, but which was not recorded here. Uneconomical to repair, it was sold for salvage and “lost” its documentation as it was sold-on through the trade. A few lessons here perhaps ? - including looking beyond HPI. And the high-priced indicators ? Nutter I may appear to be, but that enabled me to complete the few small jobs I wanted to do as soon as I was able. And I un-nutterly sold the registration separately. On balance it was a brief and not wildly expensive flirtation with a lovely, slightly tainted “S”. The car is now abroad, the new owner is fully aware of the history, and yes I’m still looking for another one, preferably a V8S.

I bought mine knowing that it needed a bit of work but it was a sound car with a good history and a good chassis and at a good price.

Good for you Peter, you have to feel confident in what you have bought. I'm not suggesting that Pauls car was in anyway inferior, in fact it looked a splendid car and in an unusual colour but just wasn't the one for you.

Good luck with your search for a V8S.

Cheers,
KS2

You have sun?? very grey here ....summer's over!

I liked your S3, looks very smart on your profile and I really like the unusual colour. Shame you sold it as I have always thought it looks a bit of a gem. The history is important especially if you will sell it again in a few years time but condition is more important to me. Buy with your eyes and inspect thoroughly is what I say!

I reckon the new owner of your S3 has got him/herself a great Tiv.

Thanks to members who've empathised, and for the potential viewings of "the next one". The new owner is indeed dead chuffed and so he should be, like I said, nice car. Part of the deal was that prior to being collected, I had the seats lightly refurbed for him, if anyone is located in the New Forest area and wants a good trimmer try Auto-Trim, Ash Cottage, 54 Everton Road, Hordle, Lymington, Hampshire, SO41 0FD Tel: 01425 622522.

Peter,

That's useful info, thanks for posting it.
Would you mind me asking what they did and how much?

Thanks,
Kevin

I removed the seats (easy job if you “Plus Gas” the retaining nuts under the car the day before), and cleaned the vinyl and the half-hide facing of the seats and headrests (which were marked/waterstained/lightly abraded from wear, especially the driver’s side). When I’d finished, the passenger seat looked almost like new, but to get a good match I asked the trimmer to re-finish all the hide surfaces. This means removing the old surface finish and “re-Connolising”, whereby all the original finish is removed and a new topcoat of lacquer is sprayed or brushed on. There were no cuts/nicks of any consequence, but the piping was parting company from the seat backs over a length of about 6-7”, so the trimmer removed the seat covers from the frame, turned them inside out, and replaced the split piping then re-stitched the whole lot. I also got a spare pot of the touch-up lacquer for the piping on the armrests. Total bill was under £150 and turnaround time 3 days. Warning: in this process you will lose all the patina as well as having what some may regard as a “freshly painted” finish, I felt it was well worth the effort. Putting the seats back in took about 30 mins, use the opportunity while they are out to thoroughly vac the interior, it’s also then a doddle to remove the transmission tunnel cover if you need to.
