Clutch trouble

Popped out to shops today when I got there pressed clutch pedal and felt an extra give at end of travel now very little pressure on pedal and no clutch ENGAGEMENT can select all gears with engine running but NO drive

What's annoying is that I mentioned the clutch didn't feel right a recent mot and it was given clean bill of health..

Walked home gonna recover with RAC soon but think she should go to a specialist for attention. Perhaps an excuse to drop an mt75 and cosworth engine in finally.

I am thinking the pressure plate has failed or perhaps friction? Any thoughts?

Could be that the pressed steel release arm has failed, i imagine if it was sudden this would be the case.

The common failures like release arm wearing through or breaking leave you unable to release the clutch.

The symptoms here suggest the release mechanism has latched itself in the 'extended' position. I wonder whether you have managed to push the circlip out of the slave cylinder and the piston has wedged into the edge of the circlip groove, or something like that. If so, that could be fixed by repairing the slave cylinder - no need to touch the 'box.

Agreed. The "extra give at end of travel" mentioned in the OP suggests this is the most likely cause. Easy check: get somebody to press the clutch pedal and see if the release arm moves. If it does, problem is internal, ie clutch plate / pressure plate etc. If it doesn't move, problem is most likely the slave cylinder.

Well done you two it had jammed clutch on during investigation it became free and now works again. Going to see how it goes for now while prepping 24v engine for swap in when it goes.
