On my way to get a ferry to France last week I had a highly alarming incident in the S - doing healthy speed (we were late for our ferry...), my offside rear gave way - making the handling somewhat 'interesting' to say the least (as I tried to stop fishtailing over to the hard shoulder) thank the motorway was quiet...

Inspection revealed a small amount of damage to the body (which was resprayed less than 6 months ago ) and a serious smell of burning rubber!! The tyre had come away from the inside of the rim and all the destruction was of the inner sidewall - this concerned me slightly

told the RAC to bring a flatloader and was piggy-backed to a tyre outfit where i couldn't get any Bridgestones so settled on a pair of Pirelli P6000s

(how I wished I could have got online and searched to forum...)

Only after getting back from France did i realise that the numpties inflated them to 30 psi which meant the handling was shite on my european tour

anyway - now that I have Yokohama A520's on the front and P6000s on the rear and a digital tyre pressure guage in the car at all times ... what pressure should I be running at in each corner?

Cheers Y'all!

Tim.

I got for the standard 25 psi per corner on Bridgestone RE720s, but different tyres will need different pressures depending on sidewall strengh.

Except when its on track or I'm out for some serious hooning and don't mind about even less comfort than usual!

A520s are quite nice and the P6000s are sh!te, so you're going to have some pretty interesting handling there whatever you do!

I'd have to agree with that!

P6000 are pretty shite IMHO, the handling was crap and the tread started to come away from the tyres.

The budget directional radials I now have are so much better and cheaper. Not my first choice of course but they came as a package with my new wheels.

Yep I agree fully! I have P6000 at the moment. Was out for a hoon with polar933 this weekend into a left then righ, the road was wet. Sideways at 60mph!!!

You will find the rear end grip much diminished. Be careful in the wet!!

Hi Chris,

Yep same here, found them to be "pants" in the wet. When my TP failed I spun the car going around a roundabout in the rain because the revs suddenly picked up and the back end spun at just 30ish mph.

I've driven on the limit in the wet with my new Nakangs (stop laughing) and they were really rather impressive. Probably won't be so good when the tread starts to wear though.

not much i can do now...other than drive slowly

is there much of a market for part worn tyres? - I really didnt have a whole lotta choice at the tyre place - but it seems like my 'plump for a brand you've heard of' strategy has kinda backfired!

Best bet is probably to replace the Pirellis and keep them in the garage for tracks days or doughnut practice, or perhaps someone else might want a matching pair...

Found the Pirelli P7000s to be pretty also, ran them on my old FWD drive Celica and while they were initially OK after some wear they became unpredictable in the wet, moved from them to SO3s and it was as if I'd had a complete suspension change they were that much better.
