waiting for the breakdown truck
Discussion
Sitting in waiting for the breakdown truck to come and get the S to take it to the garage.
Out last night pulled up at the round about and engine fine but..... clutch stopped working...
looks like its the slave cylinder gone.. dumped my fluid over the road.... back to the dealer again
Still could have been worse.... I was only half a mile form home... two people stopped to help and one guy towed me off the road to the supermarket carpark.
Really scary bit was being towed home by Mrs D.... she got up to 35!!!!! which isn't fun on the end of a ten foot rope!!!
Funny thing was I was going out to look at a little fiesta to use daily during the winter.....

Sorry to hear that mate, you'll be back in action soon enough though.
The V8S doesnt have tow hooks, do the V6's? When I was put on the low loader, the AA guy said the hoops on the chassis were for securing the car, and not for towing it
He's probably right - the hooks on mine are higher than the bottom of the front spoiler such that a tow rope would knacker the underside of the grp. Not good.
Just have to hope she never needs towing

Sorry to hear about the clutch. I had the same sort of problem last summer. I had the slave replaced and a month later the master went. I was told this is not uncommon as a new slave will be more efficient and put pressure into the master that it will not have been used to for some while. Worth getting the garage to have a close look at both.
Hopefully it won't happen to you, but if you do find yourself without a clutch pedal you aren't *completely* stuck. With care, and with the right technique, it is quite possible to drive without using the clutch. To get started you need to have the engine well warmed up (run it in neutral for ten minutes if you're starting from cold), then put it in first gear with the engine stopped. When you want to move off, simply start the engine and it will lurch forward, fire up, and quickly get up to 5 mph or so at tick over. With practice you can do clutchless gearchanges up and down the box, although this does require the right technique and needs practice - you might want to leave it in first if you only have a short distance to go. Starting off is the hardest part so you will quickly get into the habbit of holding back when you are approaching a queue, red light etc and plan your route to avoid road junctions where you have to give way, so you don't need to come to a complete halt. You can slow the car down on the brakes to get below the normal tickover speed in first gear, so you can get it down to walking pace. If you do need to stop, switch off and knock it out of gear at the same time and you will come to a gracefull stop. Once you do this you have no option but to bring it to a complete stop, so don't do this until you're sure you really do need to stop.

car at the garage now..... the gearbox was rebuilt and a new master cylinder put on during August so I guess the slave was the weak link (assuming that is what it is).
Glad I bpought it from a dealer with a 12 month warranty.
One thing that was disapointing though was the fact that the recovery truck (breakdown cover) would only go 10 miles for free after that I had to pick up the bill to get it to the dealer. Not extreme but still £70. May have to change my home address on the paperwork to the main dealers
