Bulbs and wiper questions

Afternoon all

Sorry if these issues have been dealt with in previous posts, just couldn't find anything...

1. Can anyone tell me what bulb/s I need for the following in an S3:

- oil pressure gauge
- clock
- dash warning lights

I'm going to get the dash out and will change them when I do, but want to get the bulbs beforehand.

2. Second question: the intermittent setting on my wipers works... But only intermittently! Sometimes works, other times doesn't. No other problems with the continuous settings, self park works fine. I've recently installed an alarm and was doing a lot of work in the passenger footwell. Immediately after that the intermittent setting suddenly started working perfectly but has just stopped working again. Seems like a dodgy connection, but where? Any thoughts?

Assuming yours is the same as the V8S, for the instruments replace the "standard" 3w items with 501 5w ones and paint them with green ink. No loss of light and a lovely green glow. If you’ve ever wondered about the dim, dimmer, no use at all illumination settings it’s because TVR used 3w bulbs and then covered them in a green rubber sheath to give the tinted light. So an already pathetic glow was dulled even more. You can get green 5w bulbs if you prefer not to bother with the ink.

My memory may be wrong here but I think the clock was a BA9.

The warning lights are little sealed units available from most motor factors or suppliers like Vehicl Wiring products.

If you've got the stupid fibe optic system for the centre console replace the light source bulb with a LED BA9s. A bit expensive for a little bulb but a lot brighter.

Thanks for that, very helpful. Haven't had a chance to have a proper look yet but interested in your comment about the fibre optic system. Are you referring to the four dials (oil pressure, fuel etc)? I was under the impression the bulbs were held within each individual unit? Is this not correct?

Hi Will,

Not sure which LEDs I used in the end, I bought a few different types and tried them. Tried to track from receipts but not sure.

The critical thing is to make sure they are wide angle, the spot ones just gave a spot on the speedo/tacho rather than a broad coverage.

The instruments you mention do have individual bulbs. On mine the fiber optics illuminated the heater lights and the switch illumination on the centre console. I did fit LED's to the centre console but I wouldn’t bother again. Far too much trouble and it would have been much easier just as effective to fit little 12V "grain of wheat" bulbs.
