i just changed the oil in my S3 and was going to use flushing oil ,
then i found something else on the shelves which you add to your existing oil and it is suppose to break it down and works like a flushing oil and only requires one oil drain ,can't remember what the product is called but they sell a couple of different products at halfords

What is your old oil like because unless it is like tar and extremely carbonated I wouldn't bother with flushing, just make sure it is warmed up nicely before changing, I don't think that we generally do enough mileage to worry about flushing.

we favour the Forte Advanced engine cleaner.. having previously not been a fan I have tried this now several times with great effect... it does things like neutralise the old acidic oil and help remove it all... I have noticed my oil staying cleaner for longer when using this

I've not heard of this, where do you get it? The reason for asking about flushing oil is that my hydraulic tappets seem a bit noisy and I was recommended to try flushing oil at the next oil change.

Speak for yourself. I covered 16K last year in the S. But did have regular oil changes.

You may have spotted opieoilman's posts on PH? Top bloke who has been offering advice. He does not recommend a flushing agent. Instead, drain oil, re-fill with oil of choice to min on dipstick. Start car and run for a short time to warm oil. Drain again, change oil filter and re-fill with new oil.

Means using lots of oil but makes sense to me as you will not have any residue of flushing agent in your new oil. HTH

this is similar to the product i used before oil change

Petrol Engine Flush by comma

Synthetically fortified oil additive, designed to quickly clean the inside of a car or vans engine before an oil change.
Removes harmful deposits and sludge.
Neutralises harmful acids.
Leaves engines clean, ready for new oil to circulate freely.
Helps free sticking valves and piston rings.
