I got up this morning, sun shinning.. so thaught Tiv weather.....
must be home by 4 to watch Chelsea in the pub
Opened the garage, jumped in car as one does, turned ignition... nothing, not even a turn from the starter motor.
The elec ariel motor was making a noise but not powerful enough to erect ariel. I heard the splosh of petrol fall back into the tank. The speedo is showing 40mph
Bible on to find out what battery... it goes on about getting a bigger battery if possible
So
what is the benifit of a bigger battery, if the recommened one has the power to start the car
I am assuming it is the battery by the way, any other ideas

Do the ignition and oil lights come on?
First check the battery voltage with a separate meter across the terminals (not the cars voltmeter) - should be 12.5 to 14 volts.
If ok then try to crank the engine - voltage should drop a bit (but no lower than about 9) - if there's no drop then the problem is elsewhere, not the battery, probably. If the battery voltage drops too far, and can't crank the engine then is jammed.
If the battery is ok, then you should check (a) the wiring connector to the ignition switch - they burn out, (b) the battery earth to the chassis, and also other chassis earth cables (can't remember where they are though).

Before I replaced my battery last year it was more a case of it not keeping charge over a course of a week of two. After being charged up fully it would start fine, but after a week of no use it wouldn't - so my guess might be that it's something else.
How bright are the main beams?
Sounds like a short perhaps
