I always find it annoying that at this time of year i need full heater fan but also lights. If I do this I find my charge level is rather on the low side.
With the heater fan on low, it doesn't really cut it at speed and is ok ish when stationary at about 0 degrees ambient.
So, what I want is an air-forced heater to negate the need for the fan whilst running at speed (using side vent supply from bonnet intake) and what i now know to be an - in-line fan to supplement only when stationary - allowing 'bunging up of the original fan holes'
Anyone tried such a thing?

Don't know if it's a quirk of the wiring or what but I believe it's quite common for the voltmeter to read a bit low with a few things running (lights, wipers, fan etc.) however the alternator is pretty huge and should be more than capable of handling all these plus more (surely it did in a Granada + a heated rear screen)?
However, good luck with your "re-design", maybe something like this for an in-line fan?
Getting the forced air to the heater matrix could be a challenge
I have a 4" one on my Taimar and it works fine, even have the original resistor wire in circuit to give low speed.
Set up is however some what different to an S, heater is under the bonnet and original fan is right down the front behind the grille (where it rusts away beautifully).
The inner wings don't lift with the bonnet like an S but are fixed and a duct tube is moulded in. Fan blows into this via a piece of flexible duct then another short flex joins to the heater which sits just in front of the bulkhead. I cut the inner wing duct open and "hid" the fan in there (as suggested by Adrian@).
None of that really helps you other than a 4" fan works well so even a 3" should give some reasonable air flow?
