leds in instruments

Hi All,just getting round to fitting upgraded back lights in instruments.have bought wide angle concave leds in white.fitted to speedo and tacho.tacho illuminates great -bright green with bright red sector.but the speedo is about half the strength in green same with the orange kph and white around the mileometer.also tvr sign hardley lights up.is this normal?i presume there is a filter/screen inside which changes the white light to green/orange.could this have moved or fallen back .can you strip the speedo down to gain access?would you have to bend back the lip of the black bezel to get in? any thoughts appreciated.

You have to bend bezel back to get it off.
It might just be more internals on the speedo blocking the light as you have the odometer which takes up space.
