Otter switchy

Does anybody out there know how to remove this otter switch?

That does not look good, there should be a large hexagon between the electrical connections and the pipe that you can get a spanner on. Looks like yours has been rounded or bodged so maybe careful drilling will be your only option

My eyes are telling me that it has a jagged edge around the bottom of the terminals so maybe the brass nut has been sheared off.

Option 2 is to speak to ACT and get a new pipe and switch if its not coming out.

Thanks for your comments, but it has not been sheared off, as it is to perfectly round, and also the terminals rotate if I put a screwdriver between them and turn, so maybe I will have to try and drill it. It looks to me that it has been in there since manufacture.
Just been on act website and they do stainless steel ones for £99 + vat
Perhaps that is the way to go.

You may well find once you start poking around with that pipe it falls to bits anyway - I grit blasted mine off my V8s and the metal was so thin in places it just went through.

It should just pull out,held in and sealed by an O ring. Was there a clamp arrangement holding it in?

Yes mike there was a clamp holding it in, so you think a good old tug with some pliers should pull it out??

Otter switch fitted, started engine, ticking over for about 25 minutes, fan started up at just over 90 degrees, which I thought was ok, so turned car off, engine started boiling over and water poured out of the expansion tank overflow!!
Obviously this is not meant to happen, so any ideas out there???
Water pump?
Thermostat?

Did you vent off air from radiator?

Hi Brett, this pic` should help.

On the top of the radiator is a small bleed valve/tap. In this picture it`s shown on the right, with the engine running, slowly undo the valve to release air in the system. Once water is coming out the air should be out of the system. I would do it a few times just to make sure, hope this helps

Also be sure the heater controls are on "hot" so any air in the heater matrix has a chance to get pushed out.

If engine is cold when you start you'll be ok running with cap off swirl pot for a while, this will be another place for air to vent and enable you to keep topping up as the rad vents.

Thanks mike, that's great, does the heater have to be on, or just switched to hot?

Just set to hot, doesn't need to be on (fan running).
