Exhausts & fuel tanks.

I have found a couple of guys locally who regularly make exhausts in stainless and fuel tanks too and they have said they'll build me a sports stainless system like this:-

For around £170 (no VAT) using mine as a pattern, it won't have a front silencer and the pipes will pass through the main box with additional silencing here but more or less a straight through and a less restricted system, all in stainless steel.
They will be taking measurements off mine and will be interested in making more for anyone who is after a sports system. Obviously I haven't seen what the end result is like yet but I'll keep anyone posted if a new stainless exhaust is of interest.
They can do the same for the V8 if you can let them have yours as a pattern. Same goes for fuel tanks in mild steel, stainless or aluminium.

Uhhm, should be nice and rumbly. And the two exhausts won't feed into a common open box, there will be individual pipes running through for each side with perforations and a common muffler box around them, which means if it does hit anything and split it won't blow as greatly as it does now. I'm going to see if I can get them to extend the mountings to lift the box up into the chassis so I get more ground clearance too.
These guys can tailor the system to your needs to a certain extent.
Personally (just in my limited experience opinion) I would consider ACT pipes, rather than a custom jobbie.

I know the V6 is different, but if you are able to, why not consider pipes that have been tested and developed, to give you what you want the most:
1) The best possible sound
2) The best power boost possible, even if small.
The pipes will last you years and years, is it worth thinking about maybe saving a litte if you dont have the extra cash to hand at this moment in time?

Not really. I just thought they would look nice. But as people have said the V6 does need a certain amount of back pressure, so by creating a massively open system, you could lose power.
Thanks for the advice folks, I'm going to go for it and see what it is like as they'll do a complete system for mine for just £100 all in, using the old one as a pattern with the exception of the front section (before the rectangular silencer) which is currently a pair of perforated pipes with a shroud and some wadding. This section will be straight pipes to the main silencer box and this box will contain two perforated pipes to allow silencing and plenty of wadding around them in the box.
Seeing as the exhaust manifold is three branch (per side) into a single pipe then into downpipes, there should be more than enough back pressure created. The surface area of three exhaust ports has to be greater than the area of a single downpipe of similar diameter which means you must have some back pressure. I'm certain this will be more than enough. You shouldn't have too much back pressure anyway as you then restrict the free flow of exhaust gases and reduce your power.

I think the ones I have now are 3" each and that used to sound good until the baffles fell apart.
The only thing I'm slightly apprehensive about is having it straight through all the way with no baffles but just wadding around the perforated pipes in the big silencer box. I guess if it is too loud I can fit the track day inserts at MOT time. Or if I get stopped I can have some baffles put in the box. I'm hoping it will rumble nicely as it will have a nicely balanced system with two distinct pipes for each bank of exhaust ports.
Try it and see I guess.
