Please help me to stop feeling stupid !!

You see I've just been chatting with Simon from Fernhurst. How nice of them to call to check the car is okay.

Anyway, that aside he was telling me about an unusual car he's looking at. It's a V8 with 4.3 engine. Now, I felt a bit stupid when I blurted out that they didn't do that - the V8 was a 4ltr. Apparently this was registered in 1991 with this engine.

Made me wonder if it is a prototype vehicle. I think I'm right in saying that 4.3 ltr Griffiths are pretty rare.

So, vote now. Am I either:-

a) A twerp
b) Correct - there's no such thing
c) Who knows what they made up a TVR, they were bonkers and that's why we loved them !

Heard rumours that some time ago that there were a couple of late V8S were 4.3s, but never actually saw one. Not impossible it's been retrofitted either (Joolz once put a 5.0 Griff engine in his)

Certainly common knowledge there were some late cars with Chimaera wheels and 4.0HC engines.

How do you know it was registered in 1991 with that engine?
If you change engine and declare new details to the DVLA are the old details recorded? I suppose it may show on an HPI check?

I knew I had read it somewhere scratchchin and I`ve found it. A company named NCK Racing converted two V8S`s to 4.3 litre.

it might be worth taking a pic of the crank if you ever have to replace the sump gasket, i sent a pic of mine to tvr power & they confirmed that i had a 4.3

and if you do open it you'll have to measure the stroke - piston diameter is the same!

I was told once the press demo cars were 4.3’s but badged as 4.0L so the performance figure would look better. It it’s true maybe it’s one of those.

There were 3 4.3V8S's and one 5 litre V8S, all built at the factory and for 'friends' of Peter Wheeler. One gentleman had the first 4.3 and then went on to own the 5 litre.

What fascinating stuff - fancy 'popping' a 4.3 into press cars to improve performance. I just love the cunning idea of that & I hope it is true !!

I thought there were rumoured to be 3-4 4.3s, 3-4 2.0 supercharged and a 4.6 at various times?

There again, there could be anything!
