Wheel Arches

I decided to extend the rear arches before painting just in case it was pulled at the MOT
First thing was to find some arches, I found some large ones on ebay that would do the job and cheep, I covered the rear tub in 100mm wide selotape to stop any resin or filler sticking to the tub, cut the arches to as near the existing wheel arch shape, at this time only the protrusion is important.

Next was to make a new lip, I had an old faceplate that was the right diameter, a bit of release agent and a new lip made by laminating strips of glass mat and trimming off when set.

I stuck the rough arch on with some hot glue and selotape (just to hold in place). To fill in the rough shape I used a bridge fillet, next was to cover in fibreglass to cover the filler and arch former.

The new lip was next to fit, just 2 self tappers at each end so it could pivot in and out at the top. just a couple of bits of fibreglass to hold in place.

]

After this has set the rest of the lip is glassed in forming the rough shape of the new arch. I used super fine easy sanding filler; I have to sand down by hand as it’s only stuck to the tub with selotape and hot glue, as power tools may break the seal.

Next will be to take a mould when its all sanded down (part two)

Edit as some pictures are not in the right order

Wouldn't call this "litlle" ;-). Amazing what you can do with some glass fibre !

Nice job !

Hi Han.
It will not be as large as it looks on the car, I have to trim and sand down before I can take a mould off it, will be doing a bit of trimming to the mould before fitting

Hi Glen
Over the last 40 years I have been working with glass fiber and carbon fiber making small moulds and boat hulls, last 10 years has been in carbon kevlar with vacuum bagging and resin infusion, also had a dab with the pre preg.
Would be nice to make a carbon body but the costs for a 1 off mould would put me off.

I bet 35cc is quite something in a boat that size?
