What oil for V8S Transmission and Diff?

I am looking at replacing both the gearbox and diff oils but keep on getting conflicting information as to what to use. Castrol say ATF fluid for the gearbox but other users of the LT77 gearbox all say use something else and that my gearbox will explode into a thousand pieces within the first mile if ATF is used. The story is the same with oil for the diff.

So, what are you guys using for the LT77 box and LSD?

Do not use ATF! It's rubbish! It caused crunching when going it to 5th on mine. As soon as I switched to a semi-synthetic gear oil the crunching stopped but I'm worried some damage may have been done as it still crunches occasionally when really hot.

Miles better, but it does not change a crap box into a silk purse, but it DOES all that Mobil one can do and more,...........!

Many thanks guys, gearbox is currently fine (touch wood), but after reading some reviews on a LR forum I was a bit concerned about how critical (it appears) the correct oil choice is for the diff and G/Box. Two LR owners claimed incorrect advice from a large motoring outlet chain had wrecked their previously perfect gearboxes.
