Hello to one and all,
Heeeelp, what a start to TVR ownership!
This is my first post since joining the forum (having purchased as S1) although my son has already made some enquiries on my behalf. As soon as I got the car home a slight problem I noticed when I test drove the car appeared to get ten times worse. It popped and banged on overrun which is ok occasionally but not all the time. Left it with the local garage and they told me the main air supply trunking from the mixture control to the throttle housing was letting in air because it was a bodge between two different pipes which do not seal where they join.
I have found a man who has a brand new Granada/Capri EFI pipe but don't think it will be long enough for the TVR. Does anyone know if that pipe will do the job? If not what solution to the problem has anyone else come up with?

Hi Nigel, welcome to the forum.
Not sure of a supplier for the original hoses but you could try David Gerald or failing that there is probably something in Merlin Motorsport that you might be able to make up to suit.

Use ebay and search on silicone ducting and you'll get all the various sizes. I've used two ebay shops on there with the member names of autoperformanceonline and ultimatecareparts both have delivered quickly and with good quality items.
I have used the silicone covered ducting for the air intakes on my S3 (70mm ID - but different set up to the S1) and also the reinforced silicone for the brake servo to induction manifold pipe as well as the extruded stuff for the breather pipes on the top of the rocker covers.
Just make sure you order the correct diameter and if you want it reinforced make sure you get that not the extruded stuff which is cheap and can't take the vacuum despite being sold (by these shops and many others) as vacuum hose.

Thanks for all the advice. Had a horrible thought that I had got a car that needed a part that you can't get! I think there is a bit of a leak at one of the exhaust manifolds but the studs are not in very good state (rusty as a rusty thing)so that will probably be another job for the mechanics with the right tools.
I have to say it is nice driving a car that you don't see hundreds of. It turns heads and I don't think it is all due to the backfires!
Thanks again, I am sure I am going to have a number of questions as the car has a nice refurbished chassis but other parts are very tired.

Never mind "hundreds" Nigel, I have had my S3 just over a year and I have yet to see another S on the streets!
That's part of the attraction of course and is probably why you get people staring, pointing and waving at you on a regular basis whilst out on a run, or cruising through town centres.
When I bought mine, it needed a lot of TLC as previous owner clearly had no idea, so I have slowly worked through the list of jobs in priority order. Now, one year on (and several visits to my now very friendly mechanic), I have a car that runs very well, mechanically seems to have no issues, but interior/exterior requires a bit of work.
I did buy it as a hobby, but must confess, I now prefer just driving it!! Perhaps my next one will be showroom standard!!

I've been searching my stuff & just found where I got my air trunking.
It was from AP Motorstore, 76mm id, coil reinforced twin wall, blue exterior, orange interior silicone air ducting.1/2 metre will do, they also do stainless clips & self-amalgamating tape.
Check out their on-line catalogue.
Sandgrounder, if you want to see some more S's, come to our camping weekend at Barn Farm, Birchover next weekend.
Or just come for the run on Sat.
I'm expecting 12 S's , 2 Chims & an MR-2.
