Power boost valve, leaky roof and a corvette
Discussion
This weekend I have been mostly getting bl*ody soaked whilst working on the car!
It looked OK outside so I decided to fit my new FSE power boost valve. As soon as I got the car in a state where I was unable to move it back into the garage the heavens opened ....great
Anyway, I got soaked but the new valve was fitted and with it idling for 10 mins there was no sign of a leak. As I tightened the last hose clip the rain stopped
Got changed and was just on the way out the drive when there was a very strong smell of petrol, lifted bonnet and there was fuel spraying everywhere
Left the car and took the other to the shop and got back home itching to sort out the car. Got changed and went out to the S and by the time I had raised the bonnet the rain was pouring down again
I discovered the O ring seal on the valve had been caught and squashed a little and had some damage, so I fitted the one off the old regulator and popped it all back together this time using PTFE spray which worked really well as it was a tight fit in the fuel rail.
I checked for leaks very thoroughly and turned the adjuster up a quarter turn as recommended and then went out for a spin. The pick up on the accelerator was much better and I got up through the gears and hit 80 a lot quicker, actually before I got to the end of the slip road to join the dual carriageway, part of which I travelled along in a sideways movement as the tail decided to slither in the rain. I headed up the A2 and then back down again and a Corvette passed me which I then pursued for a while until he sped away on a straight section at a speed much higher than I'd like to risk my license for, so I stuck to the legal limit .....honestly I did
As I pulled into the drive the rain stopped chucking down
Lifted the bonnet, no leaks
Well, not from the fuel rail but I had discovered my hood leaks and will need new rubbers around the targa and I also noticed coolant on the garage floor and traced that to a leaking water pump!
It never rains but it pours eh?

Hi Dave,
Yes it does improve the throttle response and makes the car feel smoother.
Hi Bill,
I don't think the insurance company would be bothered too much, it doesn't up the BHP it just gives a better pick up of the throttle, smoother acceleration. I'd be a bit peeved if they asked me for more money.

Was it difficult to fit Kevin? Where did you get it?
Nice and easy had it not p*ssed down with rain!

There are two different types depending on which type of fuel rail your car has, mine is the valve that lays horizontally and the bolts into the mounting bracket are vertical.

then had to take it all off again and replace the seal.
