Got a knob from richbrook.

Doesnt fit... might get a leven piece.

What thread is on the gear leaver shaft once the knob has been taken off?

Do the threads vary between V8S's?

Thread pitch, diameter, etc?

My knobs shiny silver, the right size, but the shaft im trying to insert into my knob is too small Not sure what to do... Simon from leven advises that because knobs get hot creating a custom fit, unless metal, is not wise.

I dont want to end up buggered with a spare knob that wont fit my shaft

I have one in my recently acquired V8 - I'll have a look through the receipts to find out where it came from.

Ren Dao had it put in when he owned the car :

Cant you put something over shaft so it packs out the hole.
Your knob might find a snug place to fit then!!

I was just about to do this with tape, when I decided to call leven to see what they offered...

Simon didnt recommend it, said anything but metal wouldnt fair all that well with the excessive heat and cold temp changes, as the knob gets a fair bit of 'handling'

I hardly ever take my hand off my knob when im driving, it just feels best driving that way. If I had more confidence that it wouldnt get too hot, or fall off eventually from all the handling, id feel more inclined to stuff the shaft to help my knob fit.

So who here got a shiny knob, fitted it themselves, where did you get it from, how did you fit itand finally, anyone got a loose-ish knob?

bob, get your hand off the gearstick and onto the steering wheel mate. It can prematurely wear the transmission and, more importantly, if you do need to swerve quickly or control an unexpected slide, you will fair a lot better using 2 hands

Redline accessories do a nice Knob which will fit a V8. They sent me the V* version instead of the one for the V6. Sortedout no hassle and looks great. www.redlineaccessoriesltd.co.uk

Funny enough, I thought it was a post about people who buy an S but have more money than sense

The Richbrook knob I fitted doesn't have a thread, it has 3 tiny grub screws, one size fits all. The momo knob I took off was exactly the same.

Unless the V8S gear stalk (or indeed its owner : ) is exceptionally thick, I can't see how it wouldn't fit.

I hear you shnozz. Actually trying to break the habbit of not having both hands on the wheel.

Cheers for the link - Checked the link doddze, site down so emailed carl. edited to say: the mail bounced back, anyone got his phone number to hand?

I spoke to the richbrook supplier, they, kindly, will accept the gear knob back and refund the money... im undecided whether or not to pad the inside to make a DIY snug fit, or try a new knob. Any more V8S compatible links would be appreciated

Trouble is, my Richbrook knob only has one grub screw, the gear stalk isn't thick, and when tight, a slight rocking motion is possible. 3 grubs would have sorted this, got knows why there is only 1

The missing grub screw was, upon receipt of gear knob, already inside the knob itself

I found that by tightening the grub to tight-factor 'virginus maximus' the gear knob is now very secure.

Now where did I leave my coat

What a difference, shifts feel more solid, precise, easier to feel where you are in the box, feels great! The old knob felt awful, compared.
