Mechanical speedo drive route
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Any one able to describe the route their speedo drive takes at the gearbox side? I can't even get the connection to fit between the fiberglass body/chassis bars. Is cutting out a little hole cheating? And as for getting the circlip into place.... I really don't want to drop the exhaust as I don't have access to a ramp...
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Paul,
Now that the rain has stopped for a bit, I've been out & jacked up the car for a look, and Lo & Behold, no speedo cable to be found on the passenger side! In true TVR fashion, the drive is taken from the other side of the gearbox casing to the normal Ford layout.
This conflicts with the info I posted on here some time ago, & I apologise.
However, some S1's possibly do have the conventional Ford layout, you never know.
On mine, the drive cable exits the casing at a slight downward angle, passes between the chassis rail & body tub, then loops back to pass above the clutch slave cyl, then up and round to pass through the grommet in the scuttle, then to the speedo instrument.
I think the exhaust will have to be lowered to gain access, and you may have to pass the smaller ( instrument ) end of the cable between the tub & chassis first, then feed it up & forwards, I don't think there's enough clearance for the larger flanged end to get through.

HTH,
Glen.

Thanks Glenrobbo!
Your description is spot on and the photograph is great... particularly good of you to note that the smaller (instrument) end needs to be fed through as the larger flanged end will not fit.
Mine is also on the driver's side.
Paul
Edit - Fitted it last night. The larger (flanged) end will fit if you angle it in a certain way between the diagonal bar/flat bar. Getting the circlip on is difficult though!!
