Lifting Bonnet Hinge
Discussion
Hi All.
Been thinking of making a forward lifting front hinge , It would lift the front of the bonnet about 150mm up before tilting forward. I have a idea how to do it and was thinking has anybody ells thought of doing this.
Don't ask for a drawing as you won't understand my drawings

Hi Alan, I toyed with the idea a few years ago using a system similar to a double glazed window hinge. It soon became a nightmare tring to work out angles etc. What have you got in mind ? It would be interesting to see.Been thinking of making a forward lifting front hinge , It would lift the front of the bonnet about 150mm up before tilting forward. Maybe some hinges that work on a parallelogram principle might work?
Or possibly a big swingy arm?
Think one problem could be that the bottom edge (valance) of the bonnet will catch as it comes up, maybe some kind of slots would allow it to pass the hinge mechanism
I copied (with a couple of small changes) this idea to improve engine access on my Taimar

Classic Saab 900 has a brilliant 2 stage bonnet where it comes up and forward and then swings open. Google for a pic. Somebody cleverer than me might be able to adapt it?
.Thanks for that I have been racking my brains thinkin that there was a bonnet that did that, of course it was the Saab.
Now I have that idea the Volvo 340/360 also did a similar trick.
what about this idea http://www.streetdreamsbyross.com/hinges_kit_car.p...

Hi All
Sorted out the automatic bonnet lift, electric rams and a key fob, the control unit will push both rams together so the bonnet will lift up and forward at the same time as going vertical. Just need to make some fixings.
won't be needing the stainless set I got from Norman?
