Is it only the four bolts holding the diff to the prop ? I've got all the bolts out and was looking forward to the diff falling on to my hand/foot/head but its wedged in ! There's some movement just not enough

Is there a 'lip' to align the two ? I think its trapped between the rear mount and the prop, undo rear mount or keep whacking ?

The prop-shaft should slide into the gearbox enough to come away from the diff (correct name "final drive unit" teacher)

Remove rear mount will help create a bit more space, it'll need to come out to inspect, clean and paint anyway and re-fitting will be easier with mount attached to the final drive unit (imho).

Little more help please diff is free of cradle and rear carrier is off but it still won't let go of the prop I've shook wiggled banged and swore but nothing, could 20 years of rust grease and grud really be holding them together ? Also will the main carrier fit out of the chassis if unbolted ?

Mine has been out so some how or other it will come out!

Two possibilites I can think of with propshaft:

A. Someone was a little over zealous with the thread lock and it's "glued" the two together (bolts must be thread locked)?

B. The diff flange is held on to a splined shaft (the pinion) by a big nut, oil can leak down that spline and sprays out "everywhere" as the propshaft spins. The bodge cure is to whack a load of silicone around the nut and refit the propshaft, this again could have "glued" the two together?

It's out ! Borrowed a massive rubber mallet from work and with one drive shaft still attached pulled it out one side. Thanks phillpot ! Tomorrows job get the diff carrier out and remove the other drive shaft. Piece of cake.
