I have just been told my reversing lights don't work, and before anyone says I am putting it into reverse gear!!
Neither light works, so I guess it isn't a blown bulb, and ideas?

My brake lights work, and I thought it was the same fuse for brakes and reverse?

cant remember to be honest. Are you sure you have brake lights?

To be honest, 99% of the time when I had trouble with the rear lights on my S, it was a faulty bulb holder. I bought half a dozen from Ford in the end and just chucked them away when i had a problem. Oh, and the other 1% of the time the brake light switch at the pedal had given up the ghost.

If it's just the reversing lights that aren't working it's probably either the reverse light switch or more likely the connectors on it.

The switch is mounted on the gearbox on the drivers side underneath the gearlever. The connectors are crappy bullet style connectors and can become dislodged.

If you remove the gear lever gaiter and look down you should be able to see two wires they should both be connected to the side of the gearbox. If they are and the lights aren't working, disconnect the two wires and join them together. If the lights come on the switch is faulty. If not then the problem is somewhere in the wiring.

Been and checked both the fuses and rear light clusters, it doesn't seem to be either of these, so that leaves the switch on the gearbox. I have never removed the lever gaiter, is there a 'best' way of doing it?

There are two screws at the rear of the centre console,Undo these then lift the console up a bit as the gaiter is trapped in place. You should be able to pull the gaiter up now

Sorted!! Took the gaiter off, looked inside and saw two connecters and leads laying on top of the gearbox, nowhere near the switch
Bit of a fiddle to plug them back in, but now the rev lights work....both of them!
