Just a little update if anyone's interested, got my lsd fitted today and the drive shafts back on (still need to borrow a torque wrench) tank cradle is fitted and fuel tank painted and ready for fitting. However had a set back in that I found another problem with one of my trailing arms, so back to the fabricator, unfortunately have already fitted the poly bushes, can they be removed without damaging them ? Just as a side note I sourced a 7 inch diff yes 7 and it fits just had to make a single half inch spacer ( I used 6 washers stuck together with locktight) obviously you still need 100ml bolt on flanges unless you change the drive shafts and I had to do some ratio homework but it does open up a few more options, just hope it's not knackered find out next summer, fingers crossed !

Hello good stuff an LSD is one of the best mods you can do on these cars IMHO...

You mention fabricator did you have new trailing arms made? Who did this for you?

Cheers

No, I had a rotten one repaired but when I went to fit it today unfortunately I discovered another area the tin worm had been munching, odd because I had it back to bare metal, must have been the over enthusiastic 'persuasion' trouble now is removing the bushes they were too expensive to melt !

Mikel,

If you are up Plymouth way you can borrow my 3/4 drive torque wrench and socket set, but due to weight you'll need to collect and drop back off. PM me or email me through my website if you want to take me up on it

You'd better believe they do and if you are borrowing a 1/2 inch drive or smaller don't even bother trying as you'll need an extension bar and will risk the torque wrench itself. I found that with my 3/4 inch drive torque wrench the full weight of that corner of the car actually lifted and I could slide a piece of paper under that wheel when doing them up and had to get someone to sit in the car as well - front slightly different as the engine weight has a major effect.

I actually bought these items just for this one job (ebay bargains from a bankrupt garage) and they were ideal

Got those bushes out yet Mikel ?

Seem to recall they are more like a hard plastic than the "soft" poly wishbone bushes, so I'd have thought if you can get a punch inside and tap one or other gently where the two halves meet it should slide back out (don't think mine were particularly tight fit), obviously as one starts to move the gap will get bigger and tapping them out will get easier. Any minor damage done right in the centre won't be a big issue (imho) wink

Just out of curiosity, where does the spacer thingy you made up go when fitting the 7" diff ?

I fitted a 7 inch LSD in my s when I fitted the cosworth great in the dry! But found it may be a bit aggressive in very wet conditions ( in would spin on roundabouts ) the tvr backend is very light? Have fun. Richard

Not looked at removing the bushes yet but all opinions appreciated, they are a toughish 'rubber' with a stainless inner tube first job is to find a socket of the right diameter and maybe clamp and push it out with a bottle jack ? The 7 inch diff has a single top mounting bolt, the spacer simply mounts between the diff and the carrier and is held in by one long bolt it really is very obvious when you have the diff and carrier on the bench (or kitchen table)

When I did my hubs back up I just weighed myself then calculated how far along my breaker bar I had to stand to apply the correct torque. Once I had it up tight I stood on it and gave a gentle bounce. All done.

Who need these fancy torque wrenches!?

Actually in that case I used the 'snap a bolt off in the head (using a torque wrench!), swear a lot then realise 20Nm is not the correct setting for rocker cover bolts' method! banghead

Before I got my little torque wrench I use to judge how many fingers to use depending on the size off the bolt. smash

Stainless tube pushed out easy, bit of a faff getting the first half of the bush leavered out but the second half pushed out with a socket on an extension and a genital tap, no damage done no problems.
