Views on veneered dashes

Have many S owners converted their standard padded dash to veneer? Not sure whether I should do it or not. I'd like to keep it original but the wooden facia and switch panel does look rather good, plus the original switches in mine are ropey at best.
The GRP facia panel also looks a little too flimsy to be veneered properly, is it best to make a new one from plywood or just go with what's there?

I thought that most S3's onwards had the fake wood effect paint dashes? I didn't know that padded ones were an option.
So changing it to veneered would make it similar to most S3's.
I thought (presumed) that the backing would be either an Aluminium or a Steel plate, not fibreglass?
I think that London Carriage Craft seemed to be the default for getting your panels veneered.

Steel. It's curved, has studs welded on the back and supports the bracket which holds the speedo & tacho; so making one from wood woudl be difficult.Bobhon said:

Great work, but expensive.Some early S's did have the wood veneer on the curved dash - I am sure some one will have a photo of theirs.
S3's has same dash as the V8s and so a smaller flatter area to cover. I have this, but after a few years, it can start to crack under the UV from the sun, etc...I am considering replacing with sticky-back plastic - wood effect, but the only match I can find is from an e-bay site int he USA as 3M won't supply me in the UK unless I buy about a mile of the stuff! - Any one know different?

Andy - if you can PM me details of the material I can make some enquiries. I used to work for 3M.
