Does anybody know where I can by a direct replacement for the gas strut in my boot?

It only seems to open the boot an inch or so now and in light wind doesn't prop it up at all.

Cheers

Chris

I thought his last post was more deserving of the 'Podie Treatment'

Probably worth greasing it all up and giving it a good service...

Try giving it a good "greasing" and you'll find it stays up all night

I'll have a go at that as a temporary solution.

Just been out to have a look at it. How the hell do you get it off?

Trouble is Chris likes to take everything apart, IIRC he even took his doors apart at the S meet

Seriously, WD40 does react with rubber so if the seals in the strut are old and have hardened, spraying with WD40 will make them supple and will also cause expansion and rejuvinate them resulting in a new lease of life for the poor old strut.

Spraying in situ is not a problem, I'd still like to know how to get it off though. I can see how to get the lid end off but no the one attatched inside the boot.

Is it not mounted on a bracket on the vertical section where the fuel tank sits beneath?

That's what mine was like, to be honest I removed it as it used to push the boot lid up higher on one side than the other.

I can't see any bolts, I think I'll stick a digital camera down there later on and have a look.

Actually I did try hitting it a bit with my hand at lunch time. It didn't come off.

Just had a look and found its easier than you think

The strut just screws into the mounts, so don't undo any nuts and bolts, spin the spindle and that will unscrew and the body will unscrew going the other way.

So you have one clockwise and one anticlockwise thread on the strut itself

Hope that helps
