Another upside down rad!

Decided to have a leisurely day flushing out the coolant on the S1. The car has always showed a high temperature on temp gauge but this is mainly attributed to the bad earth which I still have nt resolved (the more electric load I put on the higher all gauges register).
Anyway I thought it would nt be a bad idea so I drained the radiator using the LOWER DRAIN VALVE! Those who have had any issues with cooling will no that this feature does nt exist and ,according to the knowledgeable people here, the radiator had been fitted upside down by previous owner! A few hours this afternoon rectified problem and also gave rad. a good flush out. The car seems to be running a little cooler now although its difficult to tell exactly since the earth fault on gauge still exists! I m guessing there was a little air in the system since it could nt be bled correctly. What do all think? Could air stay in system for months (had car for about 4 months but not used much).
The swirl pot does nt seem to be doing a perfect job at sealing either. Its got some hard rubber fitted inside to seal should I replace with something like inner-tube to make a better seal??

Inner tube will do it, then you can tell if the cap is at fault.
The pressure cap sealed up properly with inner tube on my S2
but long term needs something more substantial as it's affected by the antifreeze.
