Electric window or not!

Hi all, the electric window on the driver's side has packed up! Switch or motor? Just wondered if anybody could help me with the cause. Don't know if this information is relevant, but just before it stopped working the window was half open and it wouldn't go down but went up to the closed position? Thank you.
My money is on the switch. Swap with other one to confirm.
Poorly aligned window runner channels; window runner felt worn down to rubber plus a stiff mechanism all add up to a ot of current being pulled through the contacts of the switch; contacts that are not much bigger than a pin head. I put a relay in my window switch circuit to prevent the switches being burnt out.

This. Is there a hint of movement, noise, dimming of dash lights? The stuck half open window happened to me and it was just the switch. You might get away with just jiggling the wires around to get it working again. If you do as Oldred suggests, MAKE SURE you note which wires go where. There are a lot of them and the colour coding is similar.

Wiggling worked for me a couple of times, but very quickly the smoke started escaping!Paul – the relay sounds like a good idea, how did you wire it in?

I used two relays which were used and wired in the following fashion.

A little sketch I made while fixing mine, if you're careful switches can be opened, contacts cleaned and then re-assembled.
If you get them working again but are still very slow there's a bit more advice/suggestions here
If they still seem slow, I obtained a spray can of " Gummi Splfege " some sort of German rubber lubricant , Oh Errr Missus, a squirt of this in each window channel slot and the windows almost jump out of the top of the door and thump down on the stops at the bottom.
Sensational, I carry a can in the boot so if out and about and you want a squirt ....... let me know.
