Does anyone have a spare set of the slot type heater controls or one currently off the car. The type I am after is the one that has the sliders coming through the two slots in the dash panel without the oval surround.

Why do I want them - well between Steve J and myself I am adding polished ally bling to the dashboard and want to change the plastic on the sliders for some aluminium equivalents and am unsure of how they are secured to the slider mechanism behind. Pulling them doesn't seem to pull them off and I don't want to break anything. Therefore as I see it I have two options:

1. Find a way to pull the plastic ones off and then replace
2. Drill the plastic slider to accept a grub screw and manufacture and aluminium cover that can be secured to the plastic when left in situ.

Of course a spare would be helpful on which I could trial my methods without risk of damaging the one fitted in the car.

First bit of shiny stuff is below - this was used to cover the damaged gear surround on the centre console where the material wears with use and impact from hand/gear stick when driving

Sorry to hijack your post Mark, but similarly, if anyone has a spare 'oval shaped heater slider assembly', I would be most interested. Mine is useable, but I did a bit of cosmetic damage to the edges when I ripped it out of the dash.

Let me know, thanks.

Hi Mark,

Sorry for the delay in replying but hopefully the two photos below will help with your decision of how to bling up your heater controls.

and in more detail:

I'm not sure if this is the oval heating control with 2 x sliders that you mean? If so - The plastic thumb grips on the sliders are held onto the sliding part by a small nut and bolt that can only be accessed from the rear. I looked into having them coated in metal as part of my interior bling but had to settle on having just the edge painted in silver effect paint. The end result is actually better than I expected as it seems to work with the other bezels etc from the gauges. On closer scrutiny you can tell that it is painted and it obviously doesn't feel like metal but it was the quickest, cheapest and easiest solution by far.

I like the look of your gear lever surround a lot! If you come up with a template or way of selling some then please let me know and then my interior will be complete! - brushed aluminium effect for me please ;-)

Regards,

David
