Replacement rad fan

I've been replacing in mine S1, but it's quite hard to find original (specially in Poland). So, I've took two fans with housing from Mitsubishi Colt, welded them and make proper connection. It's possible to make them independent (term switch on one of them).
Proper mounting was piece of cake, so I've decided to mount them on a engine side. Whole rad is covered by fans and housing so effect is great!

If you can track down a retired contributor to this Forum, Gerald TVR, he did have a working second hand unit for sale not too long ago.

If you are looking for a cheap alternative I understand (I have not checked this out myself) that the rad fan from a Renault Laguna c2000 ish can be adapted quite easily. Shouldn't be too hard to find one in a breakers. If you do go down that route then keep us posted.

I guess that is pretty much the same fan as the Laguna, should be plenty around.
I don't want to start the originality v functionality debate again but I am not sure the original S set up is the best. It has always seemed to me, from and engineering point of view, that there is too much cowling and too little fan.
There isn't a good enough link between the grill slot and the fan cowling to create any venturi effect, so the cowling is actually reducing air flow through the rad when the car is moving. It might be a convenient way to mount a fan but is it thermodynamically efficient?
When the car is stationary the cowling might just help the fan draw air through the extremes of the rad but I guess the cooling effect is more dependent on the volume the fan can move.
Too little fan? The four blade, straight blade, original is a dated design. Cooling fans are now usually multi-blade with aerodynamically designed curved and twisted blades which are more efficient and quieter.
Any thoughts?

Mine is a standard fan...I think, and is no problem,which has included London traffic, stuck on m25 on a hot summers afternoon, and spirited driving up and down a few alps...oh yes and thrashing it around Spa....
Anyway, beyond showing off, my point is that standard is probably fine, but if the rad clogs up or otherwise, then a better fan may help, but that's treating the symptom, not the cause...

I'd have to agree with you Andy, the system is probably quite adequate if it is well maintained and working as it should. Certainly a good system flush (anybody recommend an additive to clean it?) would be a lot less trouble and give me a bit more peace of mind.
Mine had a new rad when I bought it so had obviously been drained down but the water was still muddy looking. I drained and flushed it numerous times and could not believe the sludge that came out. Once it was reasonably clean I ran for a week with radflush in and then went through the flush routine again. I get nothing but clean water and antifreeze out now if I drain it down some 4 years later. Only trouble I had afterwards was over cooling which was fixed by moving the bypass hose connection.My fan is the original and works fine but I must say that if it failed I would probably buy a large aftermarket one as the modern ones are much more efficient and to be honest the standard TVR setup looks a bit Heath Robinson.
