Today is the first day that I have used the S for a run to work (15 miles) since I have changed the TP and wiring loom and the leads and the FSE fuel pressure regulator and it is now so smooth and responsive, even my wife said it felt so much nicer and I hadn't even said anything to prompt her saying so. There is now no jerking at all or snatchy throttle response, just a smooth delivery of power and it pulls in all gears, 60 to triple figures is now very brisk and smooth.

There is a very small hesitation on the first point of the throttle and I know that this is one injector that needs replacing as it is "ticking" when you feather the throttle slightly. I'll be replacing this and also cleaning the other 5 very soon.

On the whole I am very pleased with the car now, it's transformed in how it now runs and has put a big smile on my face again this morning.

Edited to add....

I also left the S out on the drive last night and she fired up on the first turn of the (new) key this morning. However, I think I'll fit a waterproof shield under the bonnet vent to protect the TP and other electrics from rain entering them whilst the car is standing outside (not that it does very often).

Mine seems to be rare in that it has a very good heater, the screen cleared in a minute or so this morning and we started to get nice and warm by the time we got to the dual carriageway about a mile from home. I'm not sure that I'd like to use the car all winter tho, I'd be very worried about the ice and keeping the S shiny side up.

Now I'm going to have to trawl through the last thread and work out exactly what you did !!

Good work though K.

Thanks Neil.

I honestly think the car runs nicer now than it has since I bought it 2 and a half years ago.

All I need now is a new injector, a new fuel tank, a new exhaust .....a new......

That's right Steve, I'm back on the original TP now but the Cerbera one wasn't really much different.

I'm now using my original TP - Motorcraft (Ford) 90TF9B989 this still has gold-ish contacts so not sure if it was standard anyway??

With a wiring kit Motorcraft 5028499 which is the Cerbera wiring kit for the Cerbera TP (gold connections).

Sorry, I should also mention that I covered everything in vaseline to stop any corrosion and vaseline I'm told does not impair any electrical connections, so that's what I used.

I think my old connector was more of a problem than the TP which is why I have switched back to the original TP and keeping the Cerbera one as my spare.

I reckon new injectors will go a long way to helping. Any idea how difficult it is to replace them? Or do I have to take the car somewhere?

The damn FSE valve is the expensive one for me. Maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas, along with my Griffith.

Thanks Rob.

Chris,
Injectors look a bit tricksy to get at (not all of them) and I believe the o-ring seals can be a bit difficult to allign when replacing them.

Podie mate, do you still have that set I was gonna buy from you?

Hi Kentish
Think I might wind up getting the pliers out myself and attacking my TP connections just to put the matter to rest once and for all.
Does a clicking from the area of the fuel regulator when flicking the throttle indicate buggered injectors then? Perhaps thats where I should be looking for my flat spot on picking up from idle, not the TP etc. at all!

Hi Tim,
Yes, that ticking is very possibly an injector. With the bonnet up, if you move the throttle linkage to increase the revs and hold a piece of petrol pipe to you ear (I used the nozzle from my petrol can) and place it in the area of each injector whilst just lightly flicking the throttle you'll hear a clicking noise which dissappears as you rev a little more. I'm reliably informed that this noise is a duff injector.
