There are two different types of THOMPSONS WATER SEAL, one is clear and solvent based the other is white and water based IIRC. The white one is no use at all on a soft top, in fact you'll ruin it if you apply that one. You need the solvent based clear one.

..and if you read the Thomsons waterseal tin it is also designed for waterproofing fabrics, leather, tents etc etc...

That's the one, does brick, masonry, fabrics, leather, tents etc etc...
Just make sure you don't buy the one that does brick and wood only (the milky one).
