Barry, I never knew you'd been hiding that rare dash all this time.
If it has been recovered using spray or other solvent- based adhesive, on real wood veneer, I reckon to strip back down to the surface would probably damage it beyond repair, so I would advise keeping the present covering intact.
A new full dash veneer would be rather expensive.
I personally prefer the cream covering you've got at the moment.
