All,

I have had a LSD on my garage floor now for about 2 years.

I am planning to have it swapped by my local independent garage. What else will they need aswell as the diff itself do you recon?

The rear mount may be split (fairly common issue), no longer available from Ford, alternatives are available......

For example this one or I like this one or possibly this one or there's always this one....or "good second hand" scratchchin

And if you do go "all posh" you may like to change the front mounts...also used on Wedges and D'loreans ( but maybe not at that price wink )

This will transform your car ..

I have the poly bushed alloy work of art style diff mount.

New diff oil but am sure they would do this.

Do it all the same time as you need to take the diff out to get the prop out i had the first diff mount on mine, and you have to take the tank out to get the diff mount out all good fun

It's a fiddle but can be done with tank in, remove four bolts that mount to chassis, let back of diff drop down as far as it will and it is just possible to get at the two bolts that hold the mounting to the diff (possibly had to also remove the two front bolts to gain a little extra movement scratchchin ).

Any good garage should be checking (looking for more work/money wink ) the prop uj's while in "the area", some have grease nipples, ask them to give 'em a squirt if they have. Drive shaft CV joints not so easy to check unless totally shot but then you'd notice that when driving, they should however be checking the gaiters for soundness (not split or perished).

In case anybody reading this is planning to take their propshaft out, and is now worried about disturbing the back axle. It IS possible to take the prop shaft out without removing the diff. As far as my car goes, and every other one I have seen, the guidance in the Steve Heath 'bible' is incorrect: a chassis cross member stops the shaft coming out easily. However if you remove diff bolts and angle the front of the diff DOWN, there is just enough room to slide the propshaft back and ABOVE the diff, then drop the front of the shaft down and slide it forward below the gearbox. Awkward but it is 'on'.

Thanks everyone....

The alloy mounts are a bit kinda spensive! But worth investing in at this time I would say....

I just checked on the prices..*.*.*.*..I will recover given time!wobble

I think I feel a bit of manufacturing coming on. I can get some nice bits made for that kind of money.

This is how I removed mine last year, the joints were ok so had it re ballanced plus fitted a new Gearbox mount too.
