Potholes? POTHOLES?????

Potholes in Essex have caused me pain, BUT....
In Stockport, you're never more than 10 metres ( sorry YARDS ) away from a pothole.
They don't have enough asphalt to repair them because they use it all on building f
g great speedbumps!.
My dearest wish is that the twunt who sanctioned these stupid idiotic menaces sustains severe spinal injuries and is transported to hospital by fast ambulance over every single speedbump he has been responsible for.
Can't beat a taste of yer own medicine, eh? )
I encountered two particularly mahoosively high ramparts last week, and bravely decided to retreat & turn round to find an alternative route.
No kidding.
If only I had been in a 617 Sqn. Lancaster with an Upkeep in the bomb bay to launch at them, I may, just may, have got through the first one, but there were two of them, and in my poor little S-fighter, I stood no chance.
Even my lad in his Transit van grounded out going over these Himalayan efforts with deeply gouged summits as testament to the amount of damage they had already caused.
Daunting? I'm not saying they were high, no sir, but you wouldn't want to fall off one of these monsters. If it hadn't been for the attempts of various vehicles trying to traverse them, I'm sure they would have had snow just above the tree-line. They made the Alps look puny in comparison.
What's wrong with chicanes for goodness sake ?
They slow the traffic down without causing horrific damage to exhausts, suspension, steering and spinal columns.
They seem to work well in France, Germany, Belgium etc.
I truly despair...

Alas another victim of potholes here - the daily hack ended up with a cracked alloy from the crater I ended up going through. Claim off the council dismissed because the tolerances to their inspection regime, identification of potholes and time to effect a repair were all met according to their schedule/records!!
Also, the majority of speed bumps here in Sheffield are the 2 x angular ones on each side of the carriageway and again on the daily hack, due to low profile tyres, the walls are "pinched" and create small cuts on the indide edge of the tyre wall. On the plus side I can generally get the S through by positioning the exhaust between the 2 speed humps and drive very slowly over the 2 mountains. Mind you the cars behind aren't impressed at the snail speed progress over them.
Totally agree with Glen re: use of chicanes; slows traffic without damaging cars or spines. I've known of several people who've had to replace broken springs that are directly related to speed humps/potholes.

Steve, presume you read that lovely article recently in EDP explaining that 1 of the cost saving measures our beloved Norfolk Council will be employing is REDUCING the amount of money spent on pothole repairs!!!! Haven't been round your parts recently but down where I am they won't save any money as the postholes are the same ones as last year ( and the year before,etc) All about lack of budgets and austerity measures I guess - difficult balancing act between when to spend and when not. I.e so much in claims costs that it outweighs the cost in repairs - if its not outweighing, don't spend it! Always a danger of getting moods running hot as well, re where is the public money actually being spent - why isn't it spent on the infrastructure.
Speed Humps - BHAHHHH just been hemmed in with the silly angular ones high enough to detach exhaust box and clip lower front air dam. Galling thing is that they don't slow any modern tin top down as they are too narrow for the wheelbase of all but the smallest Kia (no offense to Kia). Even the ford Ka and Smart cars can keep their lattes on the dash without spillage!
