does anyone have a pipercross sponge type air filter on their car,if so how do you go about cleaning it,? my s2 just failed emissions test by .4% took it off to clean crud off afm inlet thingys.

I used to clean with piper cross cleaner and then was let to dry and then spray on repellent

off to halfrauds it is then,i was just going to leave it in bucket of soapy water rinse and dry,or would that bugger it up ?

There is a "proper" cleaning and recoating kit, available for about £16 I think. Probably in Halfrauds or on fleabay.

I bought the kit from Halfords last weekend to do mine just because I was in there, made a nice mess in the bath cleaning it hehe It is just detergent in a spray bottle and some thin oil in an aerosol, you could do it with some fairy and sewing machine/hair clipper oil if you had enough laying around.

Clean it, rinse it thoroughly, let it dry naturally and then coat it in oil.

got some of the proper piper cross stuff,£15 in halrauds,£9 in local motorfactors.thanks.
