Leaky fuel tank

Frosts Automotive do a Tank refurbishing kit which claims to solve a leaky tank. Haven't tried it myself yet as the body and chassis are in seperate garages..!!
Might be worth giving it a go for 40 quid before spending 350+ on a new tank.

i use the product from frosts and a year later no leaks bloody hard work though to prep

Just out of interest, has anyone had a custom tank built? I was just thinking that a different fuel sender unit could be adapted, perhaps one from a mini or such like, solving the availability problem, if people were to change their tanks when they went.
Hi Chris,
Funny I had the same idea and mentioned this a few months ago, seems silly doesn't it to mount the sender in the side where the petrol is above it most of the time and is prone to leaks.
I'm having a tank made soon by a company called Allyfab and will ask for the sender to be mounted in the top of the tank.
I will then make an access panel in the boot floor above it so it can be replaced if required in future.
I will measure the resistance range of my current sender first to match up a new one so it gives the correct reading on the guage, then give the dimensions to the fabricator so a hole of the correct size can be cut in the tank.
the leak i had appeared to be on a seam but i don't know about any internal filter on the s3 ,there appears to be a collector pot in the bottom where the fuels comes out ,i have had no problems with fuel delivery since repairing the tank, but the chemical you prove in is fast acting and you have to swill it around the tank and i concentrated on where the area was bad and left it to settle there ,
There are primarily 3 stages (4 if you include removing the tank ) you need to use the cleaner to flush the tank out and then swill with water and then use the acid etch and swill again ,now the hard part you have to throughly dry the inside of the tank for the compound to stick and as the tank had seperators it is difficult , i did it using a combination of fan heaters and hair dryers ( the wife doesn't know yet)
