Hi all, tried searching for the best way to clean or take paint off the instrument bezels as I have a couple that the paint is coming off and I am not too sure the best way to go about it. Just wondered if anyone on here has done anything to improve theirs or any other ideas??

I am trying to get mine to all match, the Rev counter had encountered some water and rusted. I found wire wool carefully rubbed around the bezel gently removes it and does not seem to mark the glass, but it takes ages. Some have merely polished them up to shiny silver and then lacquered them. I plan to get some matt black spray and hopefully match the whole set.

I rubbed mine back using wire wool, but be careful with the clock face because on my S3 it's plastic not glass that covers it. I found it OK to do the "inside" surface of the bezel but the "outside" surface I found an all together much more difficult job. I also found it easier to remove the steering wheel. Masking off the dash and the glass (plastic for the clock) took ages, I then used aluminium paint from a rattle can and a couple of coats of lacquer to finish off the job. Not as good a real ally bezels but looks better than rust and flaky paint.

I quite fancy doing this to mine but always shy'd away but was thinking about a small Dremmel type tool might work?

Mask off the glass before you do anything!!!!


Got to be masked for painting anyway so why risk scratching it?

Cheers for the ideas, masking and spraying sounds like a good idea but also a bit scarey!! I tend to get a bit messy with spraying, lol. I think I will give the old wire wool a crack and see how that goes.

Mine were rubbed and scratched on the bezels when I got the car. I sprayed some satin matt black paint into a cap and carefully touched them in with an artists brush. From the drivers seat they look fine.

They do look good tony, but you must of had a steady hand mate, I think I would get paint all over the dash!!lol

When you get to our age ( GTS members ) you will realise that time passes so quickly, you are actually doing 10 mph when stationary.
If you start moving, the rate that time passes becomes exponential*. We need our S's just to keep up.

• Probably explains why we arrive first at the hotel bar at the end of each day.

It's definitely NOT due to intuitive use of satnav technology.
