Ambla colour query

As part of replacing my steering column shroud (still trying to locate one !), I will need to have it trimmed in Ambla. Does anyone happen to know the colours that were used in 1992 ?

Appreciate it is always difficult to identify a colour accurately from photos but here are some photos of my car's interior:

Afraid I cannot help to identify the colour although looks exactly the same as mine, just wanted to ask what the extra switches in the cubby hole are for, something Bondish I hope? Also is that a digital mile recorder in your speedo as mines conventional?

Hmmm - hopefully I'll solve the riddle of interior colour for the both of us !

Switches and LED's house the override switch for the twin fans and the LED to show whether the fan is on. Plus the LED for the alarm.

The speedo failed about three years ago and I had a new speedo with a digi display made by Speedycables.

Yep - if nobody can identify it, that's what I'll do. I spoke to a guy in the Ambla automotive department today.

Existing cowl is broken where the screws hold it to the column, so it's precariously placed and very prone to falling off. Plus the ambla has always been incredibly untidy on it and refuses to tidy up with some TLC !

Mine was like that but after trying to re-cover a replacement (a few tricky tight double curves) I gave up and repaired the holes with plasti-card and Evo-Stik.




(the one I tried re-covering has long since found a new home)

I got a new old stock one (same problem as Stuart's) I removed the tatty ambla off the NOS item, cleaned it up and sprayed it. It looks a lot better and I am no longer looking at the wavy edge of the original ambla. Like Mike said it will be a pig to get right.

Almost certainly a Jag colour as were just about all S's they even used the Jag colour names

Possibly the one called Saville grey.

Mine was Doeskin and the seat colouring I bought was a spot on match.

Thanks Paul. Call made and he's going to check the part number and call me back this afternoon. I fear it's a different cowl Sierra vs Escort though...

Definitely a different part Paul. The 'BB' in the part number identifies Sierra. The Escort one they had is a 'AB' part number.

Have been hunting high and low most of the day and all leads currently dry.

It seems that the upper cowl is also a cut down version of the Sierra item.

Might just be easier to try and fix the existing one up. Again !

Now you mention it I recall having to slice a piece of the trail edge of the top cover to stop it rubbing the dash.

Thats a job I have to do, slice the back edge off the cowl, where it squeaks against the dash. While I replace the headlamp/indicator/horn switch, stain the dash and cover the cowls with material from the old seats, just plain black plastic at the moment. There is never one job to do it always becomes two or three in order to do the one.
